The Workshop on Safety was jointly organised on 19 November 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with the UIC Asia Pacific Regional Assembly. This full-day workshop aimed at benchmarking the current situations of our members and at finding solutions or studies to be investigated by UIC.
Around 50 participants from Australia, China, France, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam attended this workshop.

After a detailed presentation of UIC Safety Unit activities delivered by its Manager, Mr Peter Gerhardt, all Asia-Pacific members were invited to share their experiences and situations. Discussions covered many areas due to the diversity of development and environment of the region.
So this was a decisive workshop to determine the most important actions to undertake in the next few years to face the safety issues of the railways in the region. To achieve these objectives, a decision was made to send a questionnaire to all the Asia-Pacific members after the workshop.

In addition, a new edition will be organised in 2016 on a specific topic based on the results of the survey.

Following this workshop, a technical visit was organised for all the participants to the First Rail Car Manufacturing Plant in Malaysia by MRT Corp (Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd) and set up by SMH Rail.
