Traffic and profitability for a Western European High Speed train network - Final Report
On behalf of the Community of European Railways and the Commission of the European Communities (DG VII)
On behalf of the Community of European Railways (CER) and the Commission of European Communities (CCE), the consortium formed for the project composed of INRETS (France) and INTRAPLAN (Germany) produced detailed forecasts for long-distance traffic for two time horizons (2010 and 2000), two mobility development scenarios and various development levels of the European high speed network. In addition to projects to upgrade existing lines or construct new lines described in the basic variants, particular attention was paid to traffic levels including an estimation of the economic viability of 15 key links defined by the Commission of European Communities in 1990 in its "Outline plan on the development of a European high-speed rail network (2010)".
