The purpose of this sector is to gather the latest market and development information from Member Railways, Railway Representative Bodies, other European Studies, and from the “ground” to create a pole of Market Intelligence. This key knowledge should constitute the basis for a clearly defined strategy for the improvement of quality and capacity along the important international corridors, with particular emphasis on freight.

The specific programme for 2008 covers the following areas:

• The assessment of upgrading needs (feasibility and investment costs) based on projected traffic loads and capacity constraints in 2020 within ERIM ERIM European Railway Infrastructure Masterplan network
• The pilot test-run of a European Performance Regime (EPR EPR European Performance Regime ) to finalise the commercial, technical / IT, and legal implementation procedures to prepare the real dry-runs during the year 2008.
