Dear Colleague,
E-learning has become "trendy" because it is modern, relatively cheap and facilitates learning. The market for e-learning is expanding and several studies prove how useful it can be. Between 10-15 e-learning conferences are held each year. This enthusiasm is because E-learning is beneficial – yet two questions remain: Is it suitable for railways? Can it be improved and be of even more use to railways?
Studies and conferences rarely focus on railways themselves – although railways are a fertile source of e-learning material, there are simply not enough computer users. Special methods are required for railways to really harness the full potential of e-learning.
A workshop was held on 29-30 November, 2007 in Budapest, Hungary aimed primarily at bringing together railway e-learning experts from different countries and offering them an opportunity to collect and share ideas, best practices and case studies.
The Workshop was a great opportunity for those who are struggling with these questions:
How to find good railway related e-learning contents?
What is a good e-learning platform that answers the railway needs?
How to solve the problems of digital illiteracy, few available computers, lack of e-learning culture?
