MedaLogistics17 Summit held from 6 – 8 June in Barcelona

The MedaLogistics17 Summit took place from 6 – 8 June in Barcelona in the wider context of SIL 2017 International Logistics Exhibition. A dedicated Mediterranean Forum was included in the programme.

Within this forum, mainly dedicated to intermodality and better ways and practices to exploiting the potential of Mediterranean ports, UIC participated in the panel speakers presenting the main results of the UIC 2016 Combined Transport Report.

In focusing on the positive results achieved by international combined transport between 2005 and 2015 and showing good trends for the future in specific geographical areas such as the Eastern Mediterranean, the panel discussion also gave the opportunity to tackle issues such as the integration of intermodal platforms through digitalisation and use of innovative solutions.
UIC underlined how railway sector is effectively engaged in digitalisation in order to improve customer satisfaction and performance of services. UIC projects such as E-wag and Erailfreight were mentioned as positive examples.

Ascame, the Association of the Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce, together with the Port of Barcelona, organised the panel discussion which was attended by the main relevant Mediterranean stakeholders such as shippers, MTO, port authorities, freight operators and forwarders.
