An online conference to launch the 13th edition of the International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD) was held on 10 June 2021.
A summary of the ILCAD campaign itself:
On 10 June 2021, almost 50 countries across all continents carried out small and large activities. See https://ilcad.org/spip.php?page=participants for a list of participants.
We welcomed new countries into the ILCAD club: Germany, Denmark and Western Balkan countries.
Some UIC/ILCAD communication supports were made available on a collaborative basis:
- Level crossings safety flyers for professional drivers issued by UIC/IRU/Operation Lifesaver Estonia and now available in five additional languages (20 all together). See them at https://ilcad.org/ilcad/article/safety-tips
- UIC press release in six languages (EN/FR/SP/DE/RU/CN)
- Two posters and two videos in four languages (EN/FR/SP/DE). Available at https://ilcad.org/videos/
This year the campaign targeted distracted people with the motto: “Distraction kills!”
ILCAD partners carried out a huge variety of activities, starting with high levels of communication via social media and press coverage. They used ILCAD posters and videos translated into their own languages (see photos), published the UIC press release, organised press conferences, handed out safety flyers to level crossing users, organised blitz actions at level crossings giving fines to offenders, carried out activities for children, inaugurated bridges or underpasses to replace level crossings, closed some level crossings, and published safety guidance.
