The new UIC Artificial Intelligence-related Applications for Railway Security publication provides a structured overview of how artificial intelligence is being explored and implemented within the railway sector in the security domain.
Developed through the UIC Security Platform New Technologies Working Group, chaired by Armand Raudin from SNCF, it reflects the sector’s growing interest in leveraging emerging technologies to support operational needs.
A central feature of the publication is the in-depth case study of the operational experiment conducted by SNCF during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, where AI-based video analytics were deployed to detect abandoned objects, monitor crowd density and movement, and identify intrusions.
The document also presents insights from a UIC member survey on AI adoption, along with a review of ethical and legal considerations, particularly around data protection and regulatory compliance.
