UIC is delighted to invite you to the seventh instalment of the UIC Zero Waste Railways workshop series. Hosted by nora® by Interface®, in Weinheim, Germany, on 10-11 February 2026, the session is titled “Circularity beyond zero: Going Further Than Sustainability”. The aim of the series is to explore circularity projects that not only reduce impact but generate positive environmental effects within the rail sector.
For the first time, UIC will be partnering with the supplier nora® by Interface®, a company specialised in premium rubber flooring solutions.
Well known for pioneering innovation in circular economy processes, as well as beyond zero and biomimicry practices, nora® by Interface® will offer participants an immersive experience of to apply circular economy principles.
The event will provide details on how Interface’s “All in” circular economy strategy can inspire practical, circular design solutions for the rail sector, with measurable environmental benefits.

Day 1 – 10 February 2026
Inspiration from Interface’s “All in” approach
On the Tuesday, nora® by Interface® will provide information on their journey to achieving “zero” impact and a net positive ecological footprint with a screening of their film Beyond Zero. A short introductory discussion will follow to prepare for the sessions on Day 2.
Day 2 – 11 February 2026
The second day of the event will begin with an introduction by nora® by Interface®, who will present their approach to innovation and circularity, including a focus on their services for the transport sector. This will include a guided tour of the factory and the inlay centre, offering a first-hand look at the production process.
The following workshop session is designed to encourage interaction and collaboration, exploring the potential of circular products across various rail sector categories and identifying opportunities for broader implementation. Insights and best practices from circular economy experts in both the rail supply industry and other sectors will be shared, with a particular emphasis on experiences involving circular, bio-based materials, biomimicry, and nature-based innovation.

For a further hands-on approach, the afternoon will include a 30-minute technical demonstration by nora® by Interface® on how to install flooring in a train.
