As African countries continue to expand and modernise their railway networks, securing adequate and sustainable financing remains one of the most critical challenges facing the sector. To address this issue and encourage dialogue among key stakeholders, UIC and Moroccan National Railways (ONCF) are jointly organising the Investment and Financing Solutions for Africa’s Railway Future Forum on 14-15 October 2026 in Rabat, Morocco.
The forum will bring together policymakers, railway leaders, financial institutions, investors, development banks, international organisations, and industry representatives to explore innovative approaches to financing rail infrastructure and services across the continent.
The agenda will focus on identifying practical solutions to bring together a range of different sources of funding, strengthen project preparation and delivery, and create favourable conditions for investment.
Opportunities to support strategic railway projects will also be examined, including urban mobility systems and cross-border freight corridors that are essential to regional integration and economic development.
Additionally, emerging financing mechanisms will be focused upon, including the potential role of carbon markets and carbon credits in supporting rail projects and accelerating the transition towards more sustainable transport systems.
By fostering discussions between public and private sector stakeholders, the forum aims to provide the opportunity to share experiences, highlight successful initiatives, and identify concrete pathways to unlock greater investment in Africa’s railway future.
Participants will have the opportunity to network with leading experts, decision makers, and practitioners committed to further developing rail as a driver of sustainable mobility, economic growth, and regional connectivity across Africa.
Registration is now open.
