The Steering Committee held an important meeting on 21 January 2010 at UIC HQ in Paris. The meeting served to re-emphasise the role of security in underpinning railway activities, particularly through discussions held with I Barron, Passenger Director and E Maestrini, Director of Infrastructure/Rail System, and to assess the work and actions currently being carried out.

The next meeting for institutional partners will take place at UNECE in Geneva on 28 and 29 January 2010 to present various understandings of railway security/rail security policies at the UNECE Inland Transport Security Discussion Forum.

The Steering Committee took stock of ongoing work and decided more specifically to pursue steps with the European Commission, the EU agency Frontex and UNECE with a view to introducing a specific ID card for railway staff working across the Schengen borders.

Last but not least the committee continued its preparation for the Istanbul Conference, scheduled from 21 to 23 April 2010
