On April 17 2010, Railway Policy & Management course for SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) with 12 participants from 6 countries (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka), following Advanced Railway Operation course for Vietnam in February, was successfully finished in IRaTCA (International Railway Training Center for UIC Asia), KORAIL.

Trainees learned a wide range of knowledge such as marketing, rolling stock, safety, signal and infrastructure in IRaTCA, the approved institute by UIC.

Field trips to KORAIL’s railway facilities and industrial sites gave trainees the opportunities to experience Korea’s advanced technologies and operation system. Especially, they were impressed by KTX simulator practice and technical visit to Guro CTC (Centralized train Traffic Control) center.

Over the last 3 weeks, trainees had a chance to seek the development of Asian railways during the team project, conducted in the course. Cultural exchange program offered a great opportunity to understand each other and build a sincere friendship among participants.

Mr. HYON, Yong Chon, who oversees the international training, said “We are proud of disseminating advanced railway system through this course, understanding each other through heated discussions and providing each trainee with the discussion field for Asia railway development, We believe that’s our mission” he also added “For the development of this region, continuous support and interest by UIC are necessary.”

IRaTCA has a plan that another international railway training course, railway management & operation for PNR (Philippines National Railway), will open for high-ranking officials from May 17th to June 4th.
