The V European Greenways Conference, organised by the Spanish Railways Foundation and the European Greenways Association EGWA, with the special sponsorship of ADIF and other European and Spanish institutions, such as ( Fundación Biodiversidad, and Fundación Once, the sponsorship from the French Minister de L’Écologie, de L’Énergie, Du Développement Durable et de la Mer, and Obra Social–Caixa Forum, the support of the DG of Enterprise and Industry –UE, and the collaboration of other national and international organizations, will be held in Madrid from 1 to 12 June.

Greenways are non motorized itineraries, environmentally integrated and user-friendly (universally accessible in terms of width, gradient and surface) mainly developed over disused railway lines and canal towpaths.

The objective of the Conference is the exchange of best practices amongst policy makers and experts from European Greenways and national and European administration representatives involved in planning, constructing, maintaining, managing and promoting greenways, as well as citizen’s organizations and entrepreneurs interested in its use and exploitation. Also the event is focused on proposing recommendations to promote and develop a European greenways policy.

Participation is specially recommended for professionals dealing with railway heritage and new uses for infrastructure. Best practices and examples in this area presented by speakers coming from infrastructure railway managers and other experts, can be inspiring for other colleagues involved in greenway development, and for setting up futures programs for new uses in disused railways.

The organisers of this Conference consider the new environmental and non motorized uses of disused railway lines open a very interesting field of activity related with the Corporative Social Responsability (and, why not, new bussines strategies) of these Companies.
