Switzerland: new campaign against littering on trains and in stations

In 2011 SBB scooped up almost 32,000 tonnes of waste in rail carriages and stations. However, littering is on the increase. To educate its travellers, SBB (Swiss Railways) has launched a national poster campaign and has started a trial system for sorting waste at nine Swiss stations. The latter will henceforth be equipped with differentiated recycling bins, making it possible to separate aluminium, glass and waste paper. In future SBB intends to step up its recycling targets on its trains and in its stations.
