The Global Level Crossing and Trespass Symposium (GLXS) was opened in conjunction with the International Railway Safety Conference (IRSC) on Monday 8 October 2012 in London, welcoming a total of 250 participants and hosted jointly by RSSB, Network Rail and the Office of Rail Regulation.

The GLX Symposium welcomed participants from 22 countries around the world and held a parallel exhibition with nine stands, among them UIC Safety and ILCAD.
John Abbott, Director, National Programmes, RSSB, UK, opened the symposium on 8 October, reminding the audience of all international events taking place in London in 2012 and introducing two keynote speakers: Andrew Trotter, Chief Constable, British Transport Police and Marcel Verslype, Director, European Rail Agency.
The Symposium will be followed by 12 sessions focusing on various safety issues over the three days.

The events, which have received broad media coverage across several British TV channels, will be developed in more detail in the next issue of UIC eNews.
