On 19 September 2012 the WCRR ORG Committee met again, this time at DB Systemtechnik in Kirchmöser, in Northern Germany. More recently – on 3 and 4 October – the meeting of the WCRR Executive Committee took place in Florence at the invitation of Trenitalia, which is one of the members of both WCRR Committees, along with JR-RTRI, Association of American Railroads, RSSB, DB, SNCF, UIC, Australasian Association and the CRC, which as Australians are chairing both Committees for this 10th WCRR. During both meetings, all issues related to the planning of this important event were discussed and it is a complicated and ongoing process!

The theme for the 2013 Congress will be: “Sharing knowledge to keep ahead of the Curve”

The programme in 2013 will showcase over 200 technical presentations, across eight themes. There will also be the traditional plenary sessions where you will hear the thoughts and opinions of some of the leading figures in the rail industry from across the globe.

The WCRR 2013 will come together with Australia’s flagship AusRAIL PLUS rail conference with combined plenaries which will see up to 2500 people gather to share the expertise of outstanding WCRR speakers.

The WCRR 2013 and AusRail PLUS exhibitions will also combine to potentially create the biggest ever rail exhibition hosted in the Australasian region, with the chance to visit over 300 companies that will be exhibiting from all around the globe.

Themes

For the WCRR in 2013, there will be eight themes to which the technical papers will be allocated and each theme has a number of sub-themes upon which researchers may base their paper. The themes are:

  • Economics/Policy
  • Environment
  • Infrastructure and Electrical
  • Performance and Capacity
  • Rolling stock
  • Safety
  • Signalling, Communications, and Operations
  • Systems and Information

While the organisation has received the majority of the required number of abstracts, they understand from experience that many researchers and experts are always short of time and may need an extra few days to complete their submission. Therefore the World Congress on Railway Research Organising Committee has decided to extend the abstract submission deadline to 22 October 2012.
Please do recruit and encourage your colleagues to submit abstracts if they haven’t done so already.

Abstracts submission process

Abstracts must be submitted directly to the WCRR organisers. The submission form can be downloaded from www.wcrr2013.org and must be completed and included along with your abstract submission. Extra information can be requested by emailing WCRR@railcrc.net.au or wcrr2013@informa.com.au

If your abstract is accepted as a paper for presentation, you will be expected to submit a full paper and to attend the congress to deliver it. If your abstract is selected as a poster paper you will also be expected to submit a full paper and to attend the conference to deliver your poster session. Speakers will be able to register for the early bird rate at any time (regardless of advertised cut-off dates), but must be signed up to attend the conference in order to speak or to deliver your poster paper.
