Czech Republic: new gastronomic services aboard ČD

Organic and locally grown foods are a hit on trains

Passengers’ interest in food prepared from the products of Czech organic farmers – introduced into ČD dining carriages in October – has exceeded expectations. The organic ingredients come exclusively from Czech organic farmers offering a high level of product quality.

Due to the expansion of their services to organic and locally grown ingredients, JLV kitchens have undergone a certification process just like other organic restaurants. They are also under the regular oversight of the organisation Ecological Agriculture Control (KEZ).

With the new timetable effective from 10 December, JLV will change its menu as well. “We’ll introduce locally grown foods, which are not necessarily strictly prepared from organic ingredients. We want to continue to use them, of course, even in regular meals,” says Jan Valeš, JLV’s director of sales and marketing.

ONLINE orders for gastronomic services aboard the SC Pendolino

A revolution in gastronomic service aboard ČD’s fastest inland trains – the SC Pendolino units – began in January this year. In close cooperation with the carrier, the exclusive caterer, JLV, a.s., will introduce something unique on Europe’s railways. Passengers in these high speed trains will be able to order in-seat food service online.

“It is unequivocally the maximal elevation of passenger comfort aboard SC Pendolino trains. Passengers will connect to the on-board portal using their mobile telephone, tablet or laptop, select what they want to eat, and hit ‘send’. They will have the option of paying by credit card or paying the steward in cash when the ordered items are delivered,” explains Petr Hubáček, product manager at JLV, a.s.

The bistro staff aboard the SC Pendolino will always have a clear overview of where to deliver meals, beverages and snacks, thanks to information about the customer’s disembarking station, carriage number and seat number. The length of time for preparing the order should not exceed the standard 20 minutes.

The fastest connection between Prague and Ostrava – the SuperCity (SC) Pendolino – also offers the BlueBar train bistro, where one can choose from a wide range of beverages, as well as foods and desserts.
