Jacques Colliard, Head of the Security Division, represented UIC at two important meetings on this topic.

The first meeting in Moscow on 18 April, chaired by the Coordinating Council for Transsiberian Transportation – CCTT (Mrs Natalia Stepanova), was the kick-off meeting of the sub-group dedicated to international freight corridors within the Security Platform’s technical working group on Border Crossing – International Railway Corridors, created in Warsaw in February 2013, and chaired by Tadeusz Kaczmarek, PKP PLK.

The sub-group decided to focus on the security of the Chengdu-Grossbeeren corridor by establishing links between railways and national authorities in each area along the route in the event of a security alert, and by laying down the conditions for action in their area. With regard to alerts, the sub-group will study the various possibilities of electronic automatic alert systems, either through the use of electronic seals to secure container doors or specific markings for containers.
A progress report will be presented in November 2013 at the 9th UIC World Security Congress to be jointly hosted in Paris with SNCF.
