Mr Mokhtar Sadok, General Manager of the Mainline Passenger Business Unit at Tunisian State Railways (SNCFT) and since 2010 Head of the UIC Regional Office for Africa, which is in charge of developing and coordinating cooperation between UIC African members, has been appointed the new President and Director-General of SNCFT. He succeeds Mr Abderrahmen Gamha who is retiring.
Tunisian Minister of Transport Mr Chiheb Ben Ahmed presided over a power handover ceremony between the outgoing CEO and his successor.
Born in 1955, and holding a Master’s in Economic Science from the Faculty of Law, Economic and Political Science in Tunis, Mokhtar Sadok has held various management responsibilities within Tunisian National Railways (SNCFT) since 1979, first of all in Metlaoui and in the regions of Gafsa and Sousse, then as Manager of Suburban and Mainline Passenger Operations in Tunis City (1996 – 1998). From 1998 to 1999, he was Head of Customer Services within the Suburban Transport Business Unit, before becoming the unit’s Commercial Manager from 1999 – 2000. He later took up the role of Commercial Manager for Mainline Passenger Services (2001 – 2007). During his time as Department Director for Communications and International Relations from 2007 – 2013, Mokhtar Sadok represented SNCFT at UIC, UAC (Union of African Railways) and CTFM (Maghreb Railway Transport Committee), before being appointed General Manager of the Mainline Passenger Business Unit (2012 – 2014).
Furthermore, in 2010 Mokhtar Sadok was appointed by the UIC Regional Assembly for Africa (chaired by ONCF Chief Executive Mr Mohamed Rabie Khlie) to lead the UIC Regional Office for Africa, based in Tunis. In this capacity, Mr Sadok actively participates in the development and coordination of cooperation work involving UIC’s African members.
