Belarusian Railways reported that it transported greater volumes of containerised freight and developed more container services in 2014. Belarusian Railway specialists cooperated with Russian and German colleagues to improve the delivery of Volkswagen components and spare parts from Europe to assembly facilities in the Russian Federation.

As a result, since 1 January 2015, all shipments from Volkswagen’s European plants have been handled and cross-loaded in Brest, Poland.

Within the scope of the project, Belarusian Railways hauled 6492 TEU in January 2015.

The terminals at Brest railway hub are equipped with the tools and devices necessary to handle, transfer and store the containers.

25 block container trains are currently in regular operation. In 2014, Belarusian Railway hauled 193 100 TEU.

Due to the growing volume of container transport services worldwide, Belarusian Railways aim to participate in various containerised freight projects.
