The Railway Talent Project is developing fast. As a result of the first networking and collaborative event of the UIC Global Network of Railway Talents, which took place on 16 and 17 July 2015 in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, a list of actions required by academia and industry have been identified and will be performed shortly.

Two current topics discussed by some 50 delegates on the day were strongly related to “Learning and development strategies” and “Image and branding of the rail industry”.

To address the point about learning and development strategies two actions have already been taken. Firstly, Dr Janene Piip, who is an independent talent consultant from Australia (working for the Australian government on talent issues) and a key note speaker at the Talent Event on 17 July 2015, prepared a list of 12 tips for rail professionals interested in an active career management.

Secondly, a first specialist course in Rail Asset Management is being co-organised with RailUniNet – Global Network of Railway Universities in mid November 2015.

The course, managed by La Sapienza University of Rome, will take place in Rome.

As for the topic related to “Image and branding of the rail industry”, it was agreed that the TALENT platform is a good way to participate in the enhancement of the image. Everybody can participate by sharing news, articles, ideas and career sheets…an excellent way to show how diverse and challenging the railway sector is!
