Mr Renato Mazzoncini, who in December was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Italian rail company Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FSi), taking over the role from Michele Elia, was also confirmed by the UIC General Assembly as the new UIC Vice Chairman of our association – a position held by Michele Elia until then.

As Mr Mazzoncini was unable to attend the UIC General Assembly, Mr Loubinoux – UIC Director General – recently visited Rome in order to present UIC’s forthcoming organisation and projects. During this very thorough and friendly discussion, Mr Loubinoux highlighted the values, projects and objectives of UIC in each of its six regions and also on a global level.

Mr Mazzoncini, who has both a broad and international experience of public transport and the railways, confirmed his personal interest in the development of UIC as a global organisation, promoting the strong values of rail within the need for the mobility of goods and people in the 21st century.
