Mr Christian Kern, CEO of Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), has resigned from his functions as of 17 May 2016 to become Chancellor of the Republic of Austria.

Mr Christian Kern joined ÖBB in 2010. Under his leadership ÖBB turned into a modern mobility service provider with a sound financial basis.

He was also appointed Chairman of the Community of European Railways and Infrastructure Companies (CER) in January 2014 and reconfirmed in September 2016.

ÖBB has always been an active member of UIC and its Director General Jean-Pierre Loubinoux would particularly like to thank Mr Christian Kern, who has remained committed to UIC and has personally contributed in a very professional way throughout his mandate.

The organisation of GRFC in 2014 and the forthcoming UIC Sustainability Conference in Vienna are only two examples of ÖBB’s active participation in the work and challenges of UIC.
