Mr Young Tae Kim, who was appointed new Secretary-General of the International Transport Forum (ITF) at the OECD on the occasion of the ITF annual summit last June in Leipzig, visited UIC Headquarters on 22 September and met UIC Director-General Mr Jean-Pierre Loubinoux.

Mr Young Tae Kim, a Korean national, succeeded Professor José Viegas who had led ITF since 2012 and whose five-year term ended on 12 August 2017.

Before joining this position at the head of ITF in Paris, Mr Kim had been since 2015 Deputy Director-General at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) of the Republic of Korea. He had been responsible for the coordination of transport policy including Policy on autonomous vehicles, greenhouse gas reduction, urban transport, intelligent transport systems (ITS) and road safety, among others.

UIC proposed in particular to contribute on behalf of the global railway sector to the debates of the 2018 Summit on “Transport Safety and Security” that will take place from 23 to 25 May 2018 in Leipzig.

The meeting was also attended on behalf of UIC by Mr Vincent Vu, UIC Director of Institutional Relations, Coordinator for Asia-Pacific, and Paul Véron, Director, Relations with Members, UIC Coordinator for the Middle-East.
