SŽDC is preparing for repair work to the historical part of Prague Main Station. On 11 January, a tender was launched for repairs of the Art Nouveau style Fanta building facade and roof. Total investment costs will amount to CZK 171.5 million, with work due to begin in the first half of the year.

The investment designated as reconstruction of the facade of the railway station Praha hlavní nádraží (Prague Main Station) will include a complete reconstruction of the facade and roof without interfering in the internal premises in any way.

Mr Jiří Svoboda, Director General of SŽDC, said: “The Fanta building together with the roof above the platforms is the biggest monument in Art Nouveau style in the Czech Republic; that is why we pay exceptional attention to all preparations. Every construction and technological procedure is designed in accordance with requirements of state care for listed buildings. We assume that the reconstruction will take a minimum of two and a half years.”

Construction work will proceed in several stages. They will start on the outside towers of the building; the second phase will deal with the building’s wings. Finally, the current state of the building’s central part will be ascertained due to recent construction work there.
