Latvia: Changes made in management of Latvian railways

Due to changes made in the composition of the board of the State Joint Stock Company Latvijas dzelzcels (Latvian Railway, LDz) since 12 August 2019, the board of LDz consists now of: chairman of the board – Maris Kleinbergs, members of the board – Eriks Smuksts, Andris Lubans and Ainis Sturmanis.

The two new members of the board, Maris Kleinbergs and Andris Lubans, have now also taken up their duties.

Previously M. Kleinbergs was Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of “Schenker” . He also was Chairman of the Board of JSC Latvijas Pasts, Director of Transport and Logistics Company “Baltic Logistic Solutions”, Director of Logistics at “Avers centrs” and Head of Latvian Office transport and logistics company “Kuehne & Nagel Latvija”. He has been Chairman of the Board of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš since 12 August 2019.

A. Lubāns has been the Chairman of the Board and General Secretary of the Association of Latvian International Road Carriers “Latvijas auto”, headed the Riga City Council Traffic Department Director’s Office from 2014 to 2017, was Chairman of the Board of JSC “Pasazieru vilciens”; Head of the Department of Transportation at the Ministry of Transport. He has been Member of the Board of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš since 12 August 2019.

Ēriks Smuksts has been a Director of Freight Transport Department in SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš. He was a Chairman of the Board of LDz Cargo (a subsidiary of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš) from 2007 to 2008. He has been Member of the Board of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš since 2008 .

Ainis Sturmanis is in Latvian Railway concern works from 2005. He worked as CEO of the Latvian Railway daughter company “LDz infrastruktūra” Ltd from 2007 until 2011, then as CEO of the another daughter company JSC “LatRailNet”, which defines the infrastructure charges and allocates the railway infrastructure capacities. He has been Member of the Board of the SJSC “Latvijas dzelzceļš” since 2016.

UIC congratulates Maris Kleinbergs on his appointment and wishes his well in his new role.
