The third SMGG meeting of 2018 and the preparatory meetings for the UIC nextstation 2019 conference were held at RAI headquarters in Tehran on 7 and 8 October. The meetings were attended by the members of the SMGG group from UIC, ADIF, SNCF, SNCB/NMBS, and RZD, UITP and the managers and experts of RAI.

In his opening speech of the SMGG meeting, Mr Maziayar Yazdani, Vice-President of RAI for Infrastructure and Technical Issues, who has been appointed Chairman of the Scientific and Organising committee of the UIC nextstation 2019 conference in Iran, referred to the longstanding cooperation between RAI and UIC and acknowledged his appreciation of UIC services and expertise provided to its members. Mr Yazdani announced that there good prospects for rail development in Iran, that rail transport is among the top priorities of the government of Iran and the Iranian President has placed great emphasis on rail development both on a national level as well as connecting the rail network to their neighbouring countries.

After a round table regarding the activities of the members and a presentation about Iranian railway stations, the group carried on working on the Long-Term Development for Railway Stations (LTDRS) project. The Russian firm IEC, in charge of the first work package (Benchmark on quality assessment for railway stations) presented the project’s action plan and timeframe. In order to establish a relevant and comprehensive state-of-the-art, UIC and IEC are inviting you to answer to these two questionnaires below:

You are also welcome to share these links with your colleagues in charge of infrastructure management and customer managers.

A discussion about Work Package 2 of the LTDRS then took place to initiate work on the mentioned project by the beginning of 2019.

Work Package 2 aims to provide station managers with the required tools to implement and manage smart solutions in stations for a more efficient and sustainable management of stations (buildings and services) and will be based on the 6th UIC nextstation conference held in Madrid in 2017 under the theme “Smart stations for smart cities.”

The Scientific and Organising Committees of the 7th UIC nextstation conference was held on 8 October. After productive exchanges between the members of SMGG, UIC and RAI staff, it was agreed that the conference would be held on 11 and 12 November 2019 in Tehran, followed by a technical visit to Esfahan on 13 and 14 of the same month. In addition, the motto of event was unanimously defined by the scientific committee as “Railway Stations Boosting the City."

UIC invites you to consult the topics of the parallel sessions for the event:
