The third and final workshop on the strategy for development of the railway sector in Africa within the framework of Agenda 2063 was held on 23-25 May 2022 in Rabat and online and brought together the members of the ad hoc committee, including experts from African railway networks, the African Development Bank and UIC experts (Maria Lafont, Railway System Department and Sustainable Development). The purpose of the workshop was to define steering and deployment systems.

Agenda 2063 is Africa’s blueprint and master plan, with one of its 15 flagship projects focusing on the African Integrated High-Speed Railway Network.

Coinciding with the workshop, UIC Railway System Department Christian Chavanel met with Said Chandid, Head of the Regional Bureau in Rabat, to discuss implementing UIC specifications and establishing guidelines for Africa, as well as priority regional projects to be launched in 2023, such as creating an African hub on rolling stock maintenance, telecoms, safety and training and a working group relating to desert climate conditions, along with other issues raised by the members of the African region.
